Orders + Shipping

Orders are processed after you click the Complete Purchase button in the checkout process.

  • Physical/non-downloadable items are shipped Monday through Friday during business hours.

  • However, downloadable software is available immediately after purchase.

To cancel an order:

For physical/non-downloadable items, you may be able to cancel an order after you have clicked Complete Purchase depending on whether the order has shipped. To call us see the Contact Us page.

If the order has already shipped or you purchased downloadable software, you can return an item if you decide that you do not want it. For information on the return process, see Returns + Refunds.

Pre-Orders

You can pre-order some items that are not yet available for immediate delivery. Pre-Orders can be reviewed, updated, or cancelled at any time before pre-order items are released. Please Contact Us to review or cancel a pre-order, or to update the following:

  • The credit card associated with the pre-order

  • The item quantities

  • The shipping method for physical products

Prices for pre-order items are covered by the Pre-order Price Guarantee, which describes what happens if prices change after you purchase a pre-order item.

A credit card is required for pre-order, but your card will not be charged until your order is shipped or the product is made available for download.

If you wish to return an item that was pre-ordered, the 30-day return period begins:

  • When downloadable products are delivered electronically to your account

  • When physical products are shipped

Upgrade Option

Some products qualify for a free upgrade to a future version once it becomes available (i.e. purchasing Windows Vista includes the Upgrade Option to the next version, Windows 7). This allows you to purchase the current product today, and upgrade to the future version at any time.

On Microsoft Store, products that qualify for the Upgrade Option will include a note describing which version of the future product you will be entitled to upgrade to (for instance if you purchase Windows Vista Ultimate, you will be eligible for a free upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate).

When the future version is available, you will receive an e-mail with a promocode for a free copy of the new product. You can use the promocode to order either the downloadable or the physical product.

Windows 7 Upgrade Option is a limited time offer good only on internet orders of qualifying Windows Vista products (Home Premium, Professional, Ultimate) within the 50 US or DC. Offer good from June 26, 2009 until October 22, 2009, or while supplies last. Offer does not apply to previous purchases, and is non-transferable and not redeemable for cash. Taxes, and shipping and handling charges may apply.

Tracking Your Order

When you place an order, you will receive the following e-mails:

  • An order confirmation

  • If you order a physical/non-downloadable item, you will receive a shipment notification when the item ships

  • If an item is delayed or backordered, you will receive a delay notification

  • If you return an item, you will receive a return receipt

To track your order online:

  1. Go to the Account page and sign in.

  2. Locate your order in the list of orders.

  3. You can click View Original Receipt to review or print your order confirmation.

  4. You can click Track Package to view the delivery service's tracking page with your tracking number entered for you.

Shipping Options

Microsoft Store in the United States only ships to locations in the U.S. We cannot ship to P.O. boxes or personal mailboxes. UPS requires a full street address. Rural route numbers are also okay, but may take some extra time for the package to reach its final destination.

Shipping fees are based on the shipment method. You have the option to select the shipping method.

Shipping Restrictions

The United States Microsoft Store cannot ship to P.O. Boxes, U.S. Territories, APO or international addresses at this time.

Note: Microsoft Store does not enable carriers to redirect packages to a new address after it has been shipped. This helps fight online fraud.
